Are you looking for high-quality and durable agricultural fencing for your next commercial project? With so many options available, it’s essential to choose the right product for you. We have a variety of timber options in stock at our yard, including creosoted timber and ‘green treated’ timber – let us guide you through both options.

‘Green treated’ or pressure treated timber refers to wood that’s had high-quality preservatives forced into it and not just as a surface coat. This ultimately helps protect the product from fungal decay and any potential insect activity. By using such preservatives to pressure treat timber, the life cycle of the timber is increased, making it a very sustainable option.

When compared to creosoted timber, that has a dark brown appearance, the product looks significantly paler as it’s been left to its natural colour post treatment.

Creosoted Timber

Creosoting timber involves the process of pressure treating the wood with hot creosote oil and is another durable product that deters any wood-destroying insects and decay for contractors. Creosoted timber offers eco-friendly credentials, with longevity of over 40 years!

The use of creosoted timber is restricted and is recommended for use by experienced professionals for appropriate and private applications, such as agricultural and equestrian fencing, railway infrastructure and in country parks or estates.

Why consider NORWOOD?

The most popular timber option we have available is NORWOOD.

Do you have a set budget to work towards for your contracts? If there is a limited budget from the client, then it’s likely that not the most durable treatment option will be chosen. However, it’s good practice to make the client aware that investing in a long-lasting, durable wood will save them money in the future, allowing your work to be passed on to the next generation.

Taking these factors into consideration, we recommend NORWOOD timber. Norwood Scandinavian creosoted timber is one of the most durable and long-lasting products we have available on the market, with longevity up to 40 years. There’s no need to worry about those unpredictable elements, this timber can withstand all typical British weather, making it well suited for agricultural fencing.

Whilst we keep the countryside working, we also want to do it sustainably. Our products are sourced from a sustainably managed woodland, with each M3 of wooden fencing capturing over a tonne of carbon and releasing 0.7 of a tonne of oxygen back into the atmosphere.

It’s also worth noting that Norwood continues to be great security for animals. Both livestock and horses don’t chew at creosote, but particularly enjoy chewing through tanalised timber fencing!
